Bineka village is located around 15 km away from Gauharganj Tahsil of Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh. There are 100 households in the village with population of about 500 individuals. This village is mainly inhabited by nand-vanshis, who are traditionally engaged in cattle rearing and dairy. Though most of these families had buffaloes, the milk yield was less and milk by-products like ghee, which they produce yielded low price due to fear of adulteration among local buyers.

In 2013, Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation (LHWRF) started its work in the tehsil. It held several meetings with the villagers. Finally, Lupin Foundation organised villagers and facilitated formation of Bineka Dairy Cooperative Society in October 2013 with affiliation to Sanchi Dugdh Sangh. The villagers started regular collection and supply of milk to Sanchi dairy. During 2015-16, Bineka Dairy cooperative sold 28,980 litres of milk to Sanchi dairy and earned income of Rs 9.65 Lakh. Lupin Foundation decided to further enhance the business volume of the Dairy Cooperative Society. In March 2016, NABARD approved loan of Rs 8.85 lakh under UPNRM to Bineka Dairy Co-operative Society. Bineka cooperative distributed this loan to 15 most regular members and milk supply increased significantly. During 2016-17, Bineka dairy cooperative has supplied 93,700 litres of milk and earned income of Rs 26.41 lakh.

“Our lives have transformed like never before. Farmer’s income has trebled and we are the second highest milk producer dairy cooperative among 20 dairy cooperatives from our tehsil, thanks to the Lupin Foundation for its timely support. Loan provided under UPNRM programme has given boost to our traditional business. Now we want to expand this dairy business further.” Says Makhan, Secretary of Bineka Dairy Cooperative Society with great pride.
